Yesterday I needed a 3mm shim, it took me less then 5min to fire up FreeCAD and design it. Thanks to 3D experience and SW increased loading time it's just faster to fire up FreeCAD and get something drafted quickly. Like you could make a box, link the x and y value in the sketch and link the z value to the extrude. It makes it super quick to make changes to designs. I really like the 2D sketching workflow, with the constraint system (it's a much better relation system)įreeCAD has this great spreadsheet function where you could basicly toss your data into a spreadsheet and reference it in commands. For larger jobs that require assemblies I stick with SW. I do a lot it 3D printing designs for home, a lot of things like holders, clips or storage boxes FreeCAD is a great fit for that kind of work. Then click on one face of the cube and select the Thickness tool. To see how this tool works, create a new document and click on the Cube icon and create a cube. Positive numbers add thickness to the outside, negative numbers give thickness to the inside. The toolbar also has the tool with the icon. Without seeing your file it can be hard to say if the tool will do what you need or not, but there is the Part Workbench> Part > Thickness. Is there any other function that could do this for me?
That is going to be extremely time consuming. What I have been trying to do, and it's a PITA, is going on the back side and making pockets to remove the excess material.
They said I should shell it to remove much of the un-needed material.
I have a part I created, and the 3d printer wants a LOT of money for it.
